COUNTY DETAILS AND PRACTICES
WHAT IS COUNTY?
County is a championship meet that takes place at the end of every summer league season and is an honor to qualify for as a swimmer. The Top 50 swimmers in any given event for their age group will be invited to participate in the meet, as well as our A relays in every age group.
WHEN IS COUNTY? WHAT’S THE SCHEDULE?
County this year is Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 9. The schedule has been the same in all they years I’ve been coaching or attending. I will give out more exact details, but here’s the general skeleton.
Saturday AM (approx. 7:30 - 1:00) 9/10’s
Saturday PM (approx. 1:30 - 7:30) 13/14 & 15-18
Sunday AM (approx 7:30 - 1:00) 8 & unders and 6 & unders
Sunday PM (approx 1:15 - 6:30) 11/12
IS MY CHILD GOING TO COUNTY?
For relays — Final A Relays will be calculated and sent out after we get Monday’s final meet results. Remember, A relays are calculated by computer. The computer will calculate the fastest combination of times for the Medley relays, and take the four fastest freestylers in each age group for the free relays. If someone cannot make county, we will ask the next fastest swimmer for that leg of the relay to step up and take their place.
For individuals — The GCSL website posts updates to the Top 50/75/100 each week. Here is the link: http://www.gwinnettswimleague.com/WeeklyMeetResults/index.html
After next meet’s results are posted (on Tuesday 6/27 or Wednesday 6/28), the document will show the Top 100 in each event. If you are in the Top 50 of that Top 100 document, you definitely qualify to go. If you are positions 51-100, there is a chance you may qualify with people dropping at the final seed. What does that mean? Well, each team will send in their entries for the county meet after they check and make sure ALL their Top 100 entries will 100% be going to county if they make the absolutely final Top 50. Some of the entries will drop, because they’re on vacation or they’re ranked in more than 3 events, etc. So sometimes #74 on the Top 100 list might get moved up to #46 on the final County list. So we just watch it carefully. We will find out which swimmers made it for sure on Sunday, July 2.
WHAT DO I DO IF MY CHILD IS ON THE TOP 100 LIST OR IN THE A RELAY(S)?
- Let me and Thomas know via email whether you will or will not be here for the county meet. We need both positive and negative, we will not assume you will be there. We cannot seed anyone that will not be there. We get fined for no-shows. We will be making calls as well.
- Your swimmer will attend County Practices this week. By next Sunday, July 2nd, we will know the final top 50. If your child is in the final top 50, he/she will continue to come to county practice the following week. If not, we ask that practice be reserved for only county qualifiers.
WHEN/WHERE ARE COUNTY PRACTICES?
All County Practices will take place at the Steeple Chase pool except for Thursday, July 6th (which will be at Jefferson Station so that we can use blocks).
