SWIM CAP TIP
Put a little baby powder inside your latex swim cap so that it will slide onto your hair easily. This also helps the cap to not stick to itself when you are not wearing it. Silicone caps go on more easily.
LABELING SWIMMERS
Use a sharpie to write swimmers' first and last name clearly, easy to at a glance. Write on the upper arm or upper back (NOT one letter at a time going down the arm). This is tremendous help for staging, coaches, judges and timers so they don’t have to ask the name. It saves MUCH time, confusion and prevents mistaken identity! Sharpie Ink Removal Tip: Alternating Windex & baby oil will remove the Sharpie ink. The Windex usually removes it completely. Or an alcohol swab will also remove sharpie quickly.
SWIMMERS EAR
Beware and Prevent! “Swimmers ear” is an infection of the outer ear canal caused by bacteria growing in the moist, dark, warm ear. Pool water can become diluted by rain or added hose water; then chemicals that kill bacteria may inadvertently be a lower % than usual. Lake water has NO chemicals. Germs can grow in the ear as the water dries out. Drops for swimmers ear kill bacteria, then the water in the ear can dry safely. To be safe, use them after ANY swimming. This will prevent an ear infection that requires a visit to your doctor, and 5 days out of the water. The drops for "swimmers ear" can be found in the pharmacy section of most grocery stores / Walmart in the ear section. Or you can make a home-made remedy of half rubbing alcohol and half white vinegar. For ears too sensitive for drops, you can dry them out with a hair dryer on low.
SPORTSMANSHIP
Our team is known in the league for its good sportsmanship. It is very important! Coaches teach this along with swim techniques. Always have positive comments to your team mates AND to the other team. Make the other team feel welcome at our pool. Wait in the water after you touch the wall until the last swimmer finishes. Say "good swim" and / or shake hands with the swimmer next to you. Cheer for your team mates when they swim, especially in relays.

MEET RESULTS CODES
NS beside your name means "no swim" or "no show."
DQ beside your name means the stroke judge disqualified you for that stroke, or for your entire relay team.
X beside your name means you swam "exhibition." Any score you made will not count toward the team score for that night, but your time WILL count toward county qualifications. It is a method to allow a few extra swimmers into an event for unusual circumstances.
